Painting, painting, in our future.

Our current leads for paint colours are:
  • Knight's Armor [office]
  • Apple-A-Day [dining room accent wall - and yes, I know accent walls are out of style, but I like them anyway]
  • Night Frost [living room/dining]
  • Silver Spoon [hallway?]
  • Gray Goose [possible hallway?]
  • Gypsum [trim]
  • Turquoise Mist [front bedroom]
FUN! I love colour names! We might go with Gray Goose just on principle! ;) These are Zero-VOC paints - how nice, the house shouldn't reek the first we after we paint.

We are waiting to pick the master bedroom until it is all planned (and designed) out. Currently a PAX wardrobe system may be in our future....?

I also think browns are on their way out. Sorry, lovely couch. This is just a colour prediction of mine. I think they've been in too long.

I'm in love with this cabinet

So I am in love with this china cabinet. Either we have to track it down and purchase it, or my lovely will custom build us one for the dining room. We plan to put it on the wall where the expedite bookshelf currently is. For we hope to knock down the wall (eventually) between the dining room and the kitchen.

Notice the ugly floors in the this picture we stole from the Internet. Why do those ugly floors follow me everywhere? They are very similar to the actual floors in our house right now, just patiently waiting for us to come smash them out.

Mmmm. This cabinet is PHAT! Alas, its like #5000 on our priority list. So I blog it, so it doesn't fade from our memory. :) Grandma's China needs to go somewhere, and this would be a perfect home for it!

I even love the hardware. And look at that, its floor to ceiling - Adrian will have to totally custom build us one. Yikes. That's a lot of carpentry.

Main Floor, Stage 1 Plan

So this is our plan for the main floor of the house. We had originally planned on removing walls and re-doing the floor, but a quick survey of our funds has changed our minds!

First things first, we want to install a dishwasher - this means a lot of electrical work, since there is knob and tub there (Augh!). Hopefully it won't be too bad...? Also, it will need a little plumbing, but again, hopefully not too pricey.

Imagine - a machine that does your dishes! Fantastic! Can't wait! I resent donning those yellow rubber gloves now and washing my own dishes like a sucker.

We plan to bring our ghetto kitchen island from our rental, and use it in our new kitchen, with perhaps a new counter top. It fits the space really well, and we don't want to spent too much money if we may be knocking down the kitchen wall in the future. Ok, I suppose the island isn't that bad. Adrian custom-built it, and I challenge you to find a better place to put your recycling!

Also, the "oak counter" isn't actually a table yet, its still an oak counter (made my by Grandpa). It will need legs, and then we'll need to buy chairs. We plan on selling my current old-lady set, and of course, we haven't actually started that process yet.

Big Plans - the Outside!

We LOVE our new house - possession isn't until Jan 8th, but we already have big plans! This is more of a neighbourhood purchase - its within walking distance of cool things, and in a great school district, 5 min walk from the subway.

For example, sometime in the spring we hope to replace the 'Insulbrick' on the front of the house (to white siding to match the neighbours...? Or cedar shakes?). Also, I have already lost the bush in the front in a bet to Adrian, so that's coming out too. (This probably means we'll have to replace the porch railing, since you'll be able to see it then.) And we'll most likely paint the brick when it warms up - currently off-white or cream is in the lead, with a black door.
